Simple story.  I saw the hat on ravelry and fell absolutely in love.  My birdfeeders are one of my great joys at this time of year, and I loved the idea of honoring my feathered friends with such a simple and elegant design.

 

I *might* use the chart to make matching mits or a scarf. 

There is rather a lot of the yarn left, after all.
