Monday Meanderings

  • Next year...I am Sooooo getting a new Easter Dress!
  • No, Mom, I didn't have time to redo the hems on the girls' dresses. Tough.
  • Yes, I did let my husband wear what he wanted rather than insist on dress clothes. Sometimes a girl has to compromise a bit to get what she wants.
  • No, we still haven't managed to make it through an entire Easter Sunday morning at church...this year partially because....
  • My almost 4-year-old has finally hit her terrible twos. Heaven help us all.
  • I almost signed the Princess over to a travelling band of Gypsies when she was in her terrible twos.
  • Last week my husband and I had a conversation about the fact that we never do anything with any of our friends. Like magic, the very next day we received an invitation for Easter, which we happily accepted. We spent all of yesterday afternoon with some of our oldest friends, and we had an absolutely lovely time. Their oldest child is a year younger than the Princess, and my girls are already begging to go play with her more often. (Their recently completed basement with super-cool playroom probably has a lot to do with that.) Also there was another friend who is currently running for mayor...and who once had the privilege of being my 'other' husband.
  • Of course, it does beg the question...why don't we ever do anything with anyone? I've friends who seem to be always having dinner with someone or another...what's wrong with us? (And yes, I'm being a bit silly.)
  • A big chunk of the answer is that most of the other families we hang out with live elsewhere - mostly in St. Louis. Friends here tend to be mostly of the 'hers' or 'his' variety instead of the 'ours.'
  • Also, Sean and I are not exactly known for being fond of group activities, and I specifically have a really bad rep for being stellarly bad in parties and with company.
  • And it's not as if we're inviting anyone over anyway. Our bad.
  • Truth time - I spent last week reading Maggie Sefton's knitting mysteries (I can really only handle fluff reading right now...think 'Friends' in a knitting shop with random murders) and they had the interesting effect of making me feel rather lonely. I don't get to see my friends that often at all anymore....and I'm missing them.
  • By the way, I was good and checked out all of those books from the library as they would have been silly to purchase. The only downside is that the last one reeked of cigarette smoke...which is one of my biggest pet peeves in the world.
  • Seriously...my aversion to that smell borderlines on the obsessive.
  • I did get to start back to the gym today officially. Last week's visit on Thursday definitely whetted my appetite, and I must say that I was thrilled to be there today. This week I'm just walking for 30 min on cardio days, and will only do a 10ish minute warm up on my strength training days. I'm so happy to be back that I don't at all mind the fact that I had to scale back so much! Katy did say that she wanted me to consider this starting over from the beginning...and if that's what I've got to do, than I'll do it.
  • I managed to damage my right foot somehow (I think in a foot v. baby gate accident on Saturday - although the logistics don't make sense.) It feels better today in my running shoes - must be just the right amount of support - and as I don't at all want to injure myself, causing further delays in the health process, I'm only too happy to baby it.
  • My husband finally checked with some friends about his leg injury (both doctors - one in sports med) and they told him to stay off of his leg for 6-8 weeks. Poor boy!
  • Poor husband also tried to get cheap Easter candy today...but they were already out.
  • I had another gauge fail this weekend. Ugh. It's on the project that I'm working for the designer, though, so I can't get too upset. I may have lost a bit of time...but I'll be paid for everything I work!
  • Speaking of said secret project...because of it my posts this week will be probably be somewhat random. The item is going to a photo shoot on the 15th, and I really would like to have it done and to the post office by Friday. Worst comes to worst, I can take it in next Monday AM and overnight it.....but I would prefer to get it done asap, which means that it's going to consume my time for the next couple of days.
  • Meanwhile, the wheel and spindles call....
  • OOoohhhh......we had a storm last night, and I forgot that my windows were open by about 10 inches, and my basket of merino wool got wet. I'm very, very carefully not touching it until it's dry.
  • Spring time is our season of financial abundance, and so I decided to get an early jump on Christmas while our budget was easier. Soooo, I ordered the yarn for the girls' Christmas sweaters yesterday. I can't wait to share that project with you!
  • All right...having written of the secret project reminds me that I need to get busy.

Have a great week everyone!

Does your library not have a cleaning routine? Ours started cleaning the germs off the books b/c of flu...something that would have been wise years ago. I would think that same system would clear the smoke. Ask, (carefully) next time you go--maybe smell all your books before check out?! I love that.

I enjoyed this meandering very much! I hope you're having a good week. It's our spring break so I'm trying to relax and have fun with the kiddos, and not mind that I'm not getting any exercise or anything done :)

Enjoyed reading all the bits and bobs about your week. I am obsessive about THE ODOR as well. Imagine my chagrin when I did my first trade on Ravelry and could smell the package as soon as I got it out of the mailbox. Fortunately, an immediate washing of the offensive skeins got rid of the odor. Whew!
