One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure
The ugly is done.
I'm sorry. I have a good dose of respect for the designer I've now done three items for because I know she's been the source of some interesting innovations in the world of knitting. There are also some pieces in her first book that I truly adore. Besides, it's just rude to bite the hand.....
But this one was a doozy.
And it hurt. My hands just don't like size 10 needles and cotton yarn - they're too big and too unforgiving.
Due to confidentiality, I really can't share the details. What I can say, though, is that I'm relieved to be finished and that I will not likely take up any more projects for this knitter.
If I had to put a label on my type of knitting, I would call myself a traditionalist. Beyond that I'm also a technician who grew up in the 4-H tradition of doing things to the absolute best of my abilities.
My designer, on the other hand, is an artist with very urban, modern sensitivities.
It's just not a good match.
I have no doubt that there are lots of knitters out there who will go crazy over the project I just completed, and I also have no doubt that this book will also be a big hit. I also believe (based on other sample knits and pictures the designer sent me) that there will be things in this book that I will go crazy about.
But for now it's time to step back and only knit for ME for a while.
