An Exploration of Unfinished Series

My name is Kristin, and I'm extraordinarily frustrated by the number of ongoing series that I find myself drowning in.  I used to be better about waiting until a series was finished before I started, but the lure of new books and authors has proven to be stronger than my will.  Oh, and I accidentally started a bunch of new series because I didn't realize the books weren't standalones.  Whoops.    

So I decided to take a dive into my 2025 reads and my reading queue to see exactly what's going on.  

....and yes, the results are somewhat ridiculous


Step One: The series that I started or continued in 2025 (previous years too):

  • Did not include series that I've decided not to continue (there were several)
  • Did not include interconnected standalone romance series
  • Italicized entries are long running series

1.  Fae & Alchemy, Callie Hart - projected 5 books with a trilogy and two side quests, only the first two released, with no timeline available for the rest

2.  Crowns of Nyaxia - projected 8 books in three duologies and two (more?) standalones, final duology in 2026 and 2027

3.  Wayward Children & October Daye, Seanan McGuire - ongoing

4.  The Empyrean, Rebecca Yarros - projected 5 books. no projected release dates for books 4 and 5

5.  Moonfall, Sarah A. Parker - projected 5 books, book 2 in fall of 2026, no projected timeline

6.  The Bone Season, Samantha Shannon - projected 7 books, no timeline for 6 and 7

7.  The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Shannon Chakraborty - book 2 in 2026, no info on series length.  

8.  The Kindred's Curse, Penn Cole - 4 book series, no projected release for 4th and final yet. 

9.  Dr. Greta Helsing, Vivian Shaw - 4 books, no projections for length or timeline

10  The Stonewater Kingdom, Rachel Gillig - book 2 in 2026, no projections for length of series

11.  A Drop of Corruption, Robert Jackson Bennett - book 2 in 2026, no projections

12.  Throne of Khetara Trilogy, Michelle Jabes Corpora - book 2 in 2026, no projections for book 3

13.  Heir Duology, Sabaa Tahir - no release date for book 2

Sigh.  I can't even think about this after putting together this list.  Just know that there are a few really great series I haven't read in a long time that I would love to return to.
