A Letter To Start The Year
Dear 2014,
Let's have a little chat, shall we?
Your predecessor was not the nicest of guests.
2013 left wet towels on the bathroom floor and a ring in the tub. It didn't bother calling when it was going to be out late. It snuck food out of the pantry and fridge, leaving crumbs on the counter and wrappers under the bed. 2013 was careless with my toys - loosing some and breaking others. It ran up our phone bill, hogged the tv and borrowed the car without refilling the gas tank. I'm pretty sure 2013 even stole an item or two...or at least hid them so well from a sense of malicious mischief that I've not found them yet. Worst of all, 2013 was horribly rude to my family and managed to so monopolize my time that I had little left for anything or anyone else.
Unlike fish and normal houseguests, though, I could not throw it out after 3 days.
Sigh.
As I like to be fair, I will admit that 2013 had it's charms as well, occasionally delivering a gift so spectacular that I had to forgive it of it's shortcomings. For example, 2013 brought Sir Winston (PuppyPants) Toby Frazier, esq. into our lives, and I cannot begin to tell you what a gift that was...and continues to be. (Although, my husband would probably tell you that a new dog falls on the other side of the equation.) 2013 also planned expeditions, introduced us to new people and facilitated growing friendships. It helped us problem solve and plan and it showed us new perspectives.
Yes, 2013 definitely had its moments.... but even then, I'm not sorry to see it go.
Which is why I've decided to be upfront with you, my dear 2014.
You see, I have high hopes for you. I would love for you and I to become incredible friends so that we can accomplish great things together. I PROMISE you that if you are good to me than I will be good to you. I don't expect you to be perfect....Lord knows I'm not even remotely perfect myself...but a little effort will go a long way with me. Let's try to keep the lines of communication open, respect each other's boundaries, and do our best not to step on each other's toes. I would LOVE it if we could also find a way to balance our responsibilities with our personal needs while also stretching our wings ever so slightly. I don't know about you, but I know I'm going to definitely need some help if I'm to accomplish my goals...and I just know you have the potential to be the perfect partner in doing just that.
So how about it 2014? Shall we do this together?
Let's make 2014 a year to remember!
Yours,
Kristin
PS. I would appreciate it if you would not spring any big surprises on me this year. Not crazy about them at all.....
